Walter Brueggemann contrasts the radicalness of the Mosaic Vision with the programme of state-sponsored syncretism of the Solomonic period.:
- (i) A Harem, which in addition to serving as a way of politicalmarriages likely reflects a concern for self-generated fertility. It serves the purpose of self-securing.
- (ii)A system of tax-districts in which the displacement of clans and tribes made state control more effective. - This encouraged amnesia: it made the people forget their origins.
- (iii) An elaborate bureaucracy which, in immitation of the largerempires, served to institutionalise technical reason.
